About
Hey! I'm Charlie, 37 year old professional musician & guitar tutor from Kings Langley/Cassiobury, Hertfordshire. I first picked up a guitar and started playing at the age of 5, and my love for playing, performing and for music in general has grown into a passion each day since. I started teaching because I played guitar in my Church Band at the time and, at the age of 16, the parents of two boys from church approached me and asked if I would teach their boys guitar - and I haven't looked back since. I have been lucky enough to have a world-renowned session musician as my guitar teacher from the age of 8 (who played globally with the likes of Tom Jones and Ringo Starr) who taught me everything there is to know about guitar, intensive theory and performance. He is still my ongoing guitar teacher and good friend to this day. I have performed and gigged in several bands over the years (rock, acoustic, punk, metal & more) to audiences of over 40,000, I own both acoustic & electric guitars and continue to write and play many of my own songs, always expanding on my knowledge. With 18+ years experience in teaching, I have taught all abilities and all ages (4+) - from beginners who haven't touched a guitar before to very advanced (and everything in between!) My approach is friendly, fun and easy going; I'm patient and always wanting to work at the pace of the individual. Since I have such a passion for music myself, I'm always experimenting and therefore always have new material to trial out with students - making lessons constantly fun and interesting. I teach all ages across all abilities, from beginners to advanced players. During our sessions we will cover a range of genres and techniques, working together at your pace, with lessons structured around your aims and preferences. With all of my pupils I offer to test out their guitars to determine if they are suitable for learning on and I offer advice on which guitar to buy for themselves or their children based on their ability level, age and music genre interests. As well as ongoing chat via Whatsapp/phone call whenever the pupil wants or needs, such as advice on a new song they like and sending over chords, learning related tips or suggestions on a new guitar. I believe it’s really important that my pupils are learning music they actually love. So we always find a balance between practical learning and working on your favourite songs so that lessons are forever fun and interesting - whatever the genre! My home studio is based in Kings Langley and is available 6 days a week.
